Starting Fresh
Im here in the bay area and my boy works at apple and he gave me logic 7 and 8(cant use 8 until i upgrade my mac,i think) coming from hardware realm(asr,mpc's) im trying to learn how to get used to working on logic. so i guess im asking what are some things you would teach somone who's green on the program that would the best way around on logic ? also is there a sampler on logic like im used to (asr-10,mpc's) do i use my turntable or mp3's ? i also just got battery 3 should i take that MF back ? Help ya boy out everybody else i know is still on hardware so i cant realy ask people in my hood, they on protools.

If you want to learn some nice stuff about Logic, go to www.youtube.com and search SF Logic Ninja... Make sure you watch all the videos; this should help you get a basic concept of the program. As far as the sampler goes, yes, Logic does have a sampler... It's not your typical sampler; it does not function like a MPC, or ASR-10. You can load all most any sound format, and it has a lot of knobs on the interface, so you can really tweak your sound. If you like to chop up records, there are a lot of programs out there that allow you to edit audio. You just have to do a little research and figure out what program works best for you. As for battery, if you are comfortable using it, then use it. I know a few people who use Battery and it works well for them. I have my entire custom drum sets loaded into the Exs24, as well as my sound library. The Exs24 is the virtual sampler that you will be using inside Logic Pro 8. You cant sampler on the fly like a MPC, or an ASR-10 by pressing start and stop... What Logic or any computer-based program allows you to do is edit audio in many different ways that you can’t do on Hardware. It took me some time to get used to it coming from a MPC, but I just use Logic like I would use a MPC, except I have more options and tools to edit my samples and create music.
