On This Day...On 1996...Do Or Die Dropped "Picture This"

On this day in 1996, Chicago, IL rap group Do Or Die dropped their classic album "Picture This." The mainstream hip hop music market was introduced not only to Do or Die, but it reintroduced the scene to Twista, who had actually dropped 2 albums prior to "Picture This" His contributions to this project would pave the way for his legendary album "Adrenaline Rush" which was released in 1997. The lead single for "Picture This" was Po Pimpin' (Do You Wanna Ride) which intially catapulted the group into the limelight, but the real know that this album as a whole was huge. Besides putting Do Or Die out their debut album, they introduced people outside of Chicago to the smooth pimp tight flow that folks would be accustomed to getting even to do this day.

Along with a few cameo appearances by Windy City R&B crooner Johnny P & rapid-fire MC Twista, the doped out pimpish flows of Do Or Die members AK, Belo (Free Belo!!!) and Nard successfully deliver a quality album on the lyrical side. When you look at the production side of things, Chicago's iconic producer, Legendary Traxster laced the album with uncut raw gangstafied beats that only enhance the already brazzy pictures Do Or Die depicted in their lyrics.

The production on this album was very pivotal, the sounds of Legendary Traxster's production would come to shape a defiant sound through the city of Chicago and give it a formatable sound that other regions could identify Chicago with. Do Or Die will be releasing their new album "Trunk Music" later this year, but it won't have the same feel as a normal D.O.D. release due to the imprisonment of group member Belo, nevertheless "Trunk Music" should turn out to be a solid effort by the group. Do Or Die made a legendary impact on the game with this album, it is definitely something you need in your album collection.
